Lamb Burger Sliders with Sweet Fig Compote

Okay, Im just going to toot my own horn for a minute (toot toooottt..tooot). This meal is DIVINE. This was my very first grilling with lamb (I used my Traeger wood pellet grill) and it turned out even better than I could have hoped for. It seems super gourmet, unique and will definitely impress your dinner guests, but the best part? You can have it ready and on the table in less than an hour!

Lettuce Wrap Tacos

Yesterday I went to Meijer to pick up a prescription and get some of the groceries I needed for recipe testing (just keep in mind it was my third trip to Meijer for the day after lets just say EXTREMELY long day). So I’m walking out of Meijer and my car is no where. Like literally, NO WHERE. It’s stolen, because people steal cars from Meijer in the middle of the afternoon, right? No Gym? No Problem. Week 2 of My Vacation Workouts

This week we visited Gavin’s sister and her husband in Navarre, Florida. We stayed with them at their house, so I didn’t go to a gym the whole time we were there. That doesn’t mean I missed any of my workouts, all it takes is just a little bit of planning and some creativity!

Monday– Gav and I ran two miles together followed by 3 rounds of 1 minute planks.

Ft. Lauderdale: Juiceries, Farm to Table, Gluten Free Eats and More!

Okay, so when we first got to Ft. Lauderdale we struggled, HARD. We couldn’t find good health conscious places to eat right away, the first few places weren’t terrible, but I was really missing out on getting in any good nutrition. This was partially because Gavin was in a conference for work and I didn’t have my own car. For the first day or so I mostly relied on our grocery trip to Whole Foods where I got a few things I could have to throw together in the room.

A Week of My Vacation Workouts

Monday – Our flight left Tuesday so since we would be traveling the majority or the day I planned for this to be my rest day, so I made sure to make it to my local box, Q2 Crossfit, to get in a good WOD before my rest day.

Tuesday – I took an active rest day, even though we were on the road/flying for the majority of the day I made sure to get in a ton of walking (mostly at the airport).

Wednesday – Our Hotel’s gym is AMAZING, so I’m definitely taking full advantage of it while I’m here!

Eating and My Workout in Chicago

Ohh Chicago, you have my heart. My absolute favorite place to travel to for good food, it’s so easy to keep it clean and full of nutrition at the same time! I grew up just a little over 2 hours from Chi-Town, so it was a place we traveled to often, for either long weekends or even just for a quick day trip. Gav and I traveled to the city a few weeks ago for my first visit to Northwestern, so we made sure to visit all our faves! And of course, in the spirit of the big game against UofM this weekend, I had to rock my MSU hoodie, GO GREEN!

AB ‘n’ J Smoothie

Gavin ordered this smoothie from a local juice and smoothie shop we like to visit inside the Bay City Market. He loved it and asked if I could start making it for him when we wanted to do a quick easy dinner. The original smoothie was made with peanuts and had no protein source or greens in it. I love this paleo friendly version because it can be used as a meal replacement, it has a good amount of protein, and it includes greens as well.

So lately I’ve been upping my fat intake, especially in the morning. I’m not kidding when I say it has helped me feel SOOOO much better. I no longer get headaches from my blood sugar crashing before lunch and definitely don’t experience that hangry feeling (ya feel me?), I eat so much less, in fact my grocery bills have even started to decrease! Fatty coffees have been making this adjustment so much easier, I treat them as a meal replacement, they’re often my go to breakfast, and not to mention they’re absolutely delicious. How I Stick to my Diet While Flying

Gavin and I are on vacation in Ft. Lauderdale this week! Well, I’m on vacation, Gavin is here for work. Perks on having a guy who travels all the time for his job…I get to go with and get lots of vacations and stay in luxurious hotels all FO FREE. Anyways…I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to talk a little making health conscious decisions while traveling. First stop, where it all all goes downhill: the airport.

My Journey that Led to Northwestern

Rewind to a little over three years ago. I was going to see a sports medicine doctor in East Lansing at Michigan State University, where I had just finished my degree at and was planning on starting grad school the following year. My entire lower half of my body felt like it was asleep, I had been going to crossfit regularly and was 100 percent certain I hurt my back doing deadlifts, he would send me to a few PT sessions and I would be back to Spartan Crossfit in no time.
