Have You Had Your Flu Shot Today?

Not a fan of getting your flu shot every cold and flu season? No? Me neither – but let’s leave that topic for another day :).

I came up with this little concoction a few years ago and it’s been a complete LIFESAVER. Every time I get that little tickle in the back of my throat, have been in contact with someone who is sick, or just know I have something coming up that I DO NOT want to be sick for, I whip up one of these little guys.

I’ve provided a more detailed recipe below, but let’s go a bit more in depth of what this “flu shot” is made up of and why its so effective in fighting the common cold and flu.

Garlic: Garlic has many powerful medicinal properties and can be used as a preventative tool for so many illnesses (it is believed to reduce high blood pressure, improve cholesterol, and help fight Alzheimers/Dementia). Also, it is made up of little bit of almost everything we need on a daily basis! It also known to be a HUGE immune booster, so it can help fight off sickness before it happens and it will also help to shorten the length of a cold/flu.

Lemon: Lemon is high in Vitamin C, which, like garlic, can help to shorten the length of a bug and help to lesson the severity of symptoms.

Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne Pepper aids in detoxification, so it will help to push that cold right out the front door!

Honey: Not only is honey soothing to sore throats, it is anti-infalmitory and has many antibacterial properties.

Ginger: Ginger helps to fight inflammation

The Flu Shot

1 large clove of garlic, minced (to reap the most benefits this should be fresh and locally grown if possible)

1 lemon, juiced

dash of cayenne pepper

1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (I like to use my garlic press for this)

1 tsp. honey

combine in a shot glass, hold your nose and shoot it back! For best results, take 3 per day (morning, noon and night) while fighting off an illness. Took once per day as a preventive as needed.

P.S. Make sure you have a tall glass of H2O to wash it down with. It’s really not to bad at all, just take it quick :).
