Can you guys BELIEVE the Vikings vs. Saints game this past Sunday??! Maybe no one else is excited because it’s the Vikings and it’s pretty rare for me to find another Vikings fan around here, but regardless, I was pretty pumped Sunday evening after that win. According to Gavin as he was trimming his nails in the final seconds, It was a real “nail clipper”. Also, maybe no one else finds that funny… but I got a good laugh out of it anyways.
If you know anything about my food preferences, you know I love ANYTHING that’s spicy. So does Gavin. So when he asked me to make something that involved jalapeños and chorizo, I was on it. Like, that day on it.
I grew up in the Southwest corner of Michigan, about a 45 minute drive south of Kalamazoo. It’s one of Michigan’s best cities (although I may be slightly biased 🙂 ). Why you ask? Kalamazoo’s farmer’s market is out of this world, it has been consistently ranked in various publications and articles, including Clean Eating Magazine’s Top 50 Farmer’s Markets in America. It’s downtown constantly has festivals running throughout the entire summer (Ribfest or Food Truck
If you’ve been paying attention to the health and wellness community lately then chances are you’ve heard all the craze about bone broth. I’ve been making it for the past few years but recently it has started to become a staple in my diet. You may be wondering…”Whats with all the hype?”
Well, bone broth is full of anti-inflammatory and gut healing proteins. It is also very mineral rich; containing Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and Amino Acids that our body needs (Paleo Leap, 2016). Some of the health benefits include:
If you know me, you know I am a huge Bachelor/Bachelorette ADDICT. I started watching it when I was a sophomore in college and I’ve been hooked ever since. I haven’t missed an episode in six years. I think the shows completely ridiculous, BUT…I love EVERY. SINGLE. BIT. I wasn’t thrilled when I found out Arie was this season’s Bachelor. I didn’t like him at all in Emily’s seasons; however, I don’t even remember why I didn’t like him since it’s been like what, 100 years since he was on Emily’s seasons?? Soo…I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt and letting him have a second chance.
Happy 2018 y’all, we made it! 2017 brought so many blessings to me but it was also a pretty rough ride. I already know 2018 will be a toughie for me since I’ll be having my Stem Cell Transplant in April, but I’m ready to tackle it head on!
Alright, Let’s chat a little about The Whole30. Many of us will start a Whole30 on January 1, however; I am not a real “New Years Resolutioner”, so I have decided December 30th will be my day! This will be my third Whole30, so I’m somewhat of a veteran, but doesn’t at all mean it gets easier (well, for the first week at least)! However, it is such a good way for me to clean up my diet. I’ll admit I’ve been slacking a little lately, it doesn’t feel good and I know I need to get back on track. So I’m using my go to, tried and true solution: jumpin’ on that Whole30 train!
When I first switched from eating a Standard American Diet to a healthier lifestyle, and then later transitioning to Paleo, I didn’t look forward to the Holidays. I actually had anxiety thinking about it. What would I eat? Did I have the willpower to not eat the foods I knew would make me feel sick and miserable? Do I have to just sit there and watch everyone else eat all of my favorite foods I used to look so forward to eating for so long? Would I ruin all of my clean eating efforts and hard work in the gym over the holiday season?
Hey Friends! I apologize for being so absent the past few weeks, I just finished up freezing my eggs in preparation for my transplant and I had some unforeseen complications that landed me in bed for a good week and a half, BUT, good news: we now have eight successfully frozen embryos to use whenever we choose after I am finished with my transplant! Sidenote: these are also referred to as Blastocysts? That’s what the nurse called them when she delivered the good news, anyways. Prior to finding this out Gav and I just referred to them as frozen babies. Now that he knows they are called Blastocysts he uses the term interchangeably with “baby”. So now I am referred to
So I have recently felt compelled to share this story with all of the internet to read when a friend of mine had a very similar encounter as myself about a month ago. It got me wondering…how many of us have gotten ourselves in a similar utterly delightful predicament?
I was treated to a much needed and overdue massage by my mom (she’s a gem isn’t she?) when I came home to visit last. Words cannot describe my excitement for this! I used to treat myself to massages regularly when I was doing hair and my insurance covered them. I immediately stopped when I switched insurances and received a nice fat $150 bill in the mail for a single massage, GAG. So needless to say, I was in desperate need.
